Nos. 53 and 55

Terraced town houses. c.1811-20 Portman Estate development, associated
with J. Parkinson's Bryanston Square. Stock brick with channelled stucco
ground floors; concealed slate roofs. 5 storeys and basements. Each 3
windows wide. Semicircular arched doorways to left, No. 53 retaining
panelled door and fanlight, No. 55 altered. Recessed sash windows, under
flat gauged arches (of red brick to No. 55) on upper floors; No. 53 has mid
C.19, channelled stucco canted bay, replacing central and right hand
windows, from ground to 2nd floor, finishing with cornice and blocking
course. Crowning dentil cornice and blocking course to both fronts.
Original, cast iron, geometric patterned 1st floor balconies. Cast iron
area spear head railings with urn finials. Nos. 53 and 55 are of the same
build as Nos 57 to 63 (odd) (qv) with cornice carried through, etc. Included
for group value only.
