2.
An underground chamber to rear of No 5, probably used for storage and probably
of late C17 date; only surviving example of several found in Cheam. A steep
flight of steps leads down to rectangular space with walls of limestone masonry
and brick barrel vaulted roof [Flemish bond]; round-headed arches in centre of
each long wall and in rear wall to west; a flight of steps leads down to a further
depth from the latter. Iron rings in wall. Possibly used as a food store for
Cheam School when it occupied Whitehall.
