House, now council offices. Early C18, altered. Brown brick in Flemish bond with
red brick dressings; plain tile roof. 2-storeys with attic, 4 bays. C1970
unsympathetic shop front and deep fascia across ground floor. 1st floor has red
brick quoins to angles and to windows which have gauged flat brick arches and sashes
with glazing bars and exposed sash boxes (bay 4 window with replacement lower sash).
Eaves band below parapet with flat coping. Two late C19/early C20 segmental-arched
dormers to mansard roof which has end stacks. C20 additions to right side and rear
not of special interest. Interior: on first floor rooms have panelled dados,
cupboards and window reveals; the two front rooms have decorative C1800 fireplace
surrounds with reeded I columns, decorative motifs to friezes, and cornices.
Dog-leg stair rises from 1st floor to attic and has closed string, columnar newels,
column-on-vase balusters, and moulded handrail. Old roof timbers from former 2-span
roof.
