Circa 1870. Symmetrical pair of houses in form of four storey, two window wide tower between advanced wings of three storeys and basement. Pale gaults; artificial stone dressings; hipped slate roofs to wings.
Tower; central flight of stone steps to Corinthian double porch in antis. Cast iron pierced balustrade above. Tiers of windows of upper three-storeys recessed in brick arches. Crowning cornice, blocking course with cast iron railings between urn finials at angles. Weather vane.
Wings; ground floor canted bow with cast iron window guard to bracketed cill. First floor tripartite window with console keyblock to centre light and console brackets supporting cornice. Second floor tripartite window.
Stacks with oversailing courses.
Pale gaults boundary wall to No 11, with good iron tracery gate and piers.
Plaque on No 11 erected by London County Council in 1926 reads 'Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837-1909) poet, and his friend Theodore Watts-Dunton (1832-1914) poet, novelist, critic, lived and died here'.
