Small country house, now club house, and attached walls. c1814
with later alterations and restorations c1948 following fire. For
Elias Isaac. Cement face over ashlar but retaining ashlar details
including porch, entablature and rear loggia; brick range at
rear; concealed roof; stacks removed; reddish-pink brick wall.
Main range of 2 storeys, 7 first-floor windows (arranged 2:3:2)
with further single-storey range at left (rising to 2 storeys at
rear/garden front). Main range has central break forward with
detached pediment containing clock; entablature with low, coped
parapet. 6/6 sashes with sills throughout. Central entrance in
distyle Roman Doric porch, renewed part-glazed door and overlight
with glazing bars. Range at left has three 6/6 sashes and
entrance a part-glazed renewed door, with fanlight in timber
doorcase with open pediment; cornice and low, coped parapet.
Garden (south) facade: main range of 2 storeys, 3 bays (3
first-floor windows) and range to east of 2 storeys, 3 bays. Main
range has central shallow break forward. Ground floor has
continuous 7-columnar Doric loggia with entablature and
balustrate; Doric responds. Windows: first floor has outer tall
1/1 horned sashes in cambered, tooled architraves and with
keystones; central wide, tall tripartite window with French
windows between 1/1 sashes in tooled architrave. Ground floor has
French windows, that to centre is wider, between sidelights and
with deep overlight, outer windows have segmental-headed
overlights with tooled surrounds and keystones. Range to right
has central full-height, solid rectangular bay; outer 2/2 sashes,
centre has segmental-arched tripartite 1/1 sashes, sides of bay
have 1/1 segment-headed sashes; all windows in tooled surrounds
and with keystones. Right return has five first-floor windows
with thin Doric pilasters strips between; mainly 1/1 horned
sashes.
INTERIOR: retains original features including open well staircase
(restored) with ornate cast-iron balusters and wreathed handrail;
colonnade to hall has 2 Roman Doric columns;
6-raised-and-fielded-panel doors; panelled shutters. Dining room
at rear has two 4-panel doors curved on plan to 'apse'.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached wall ramped down with pedestrian
access abuts wall to former walled garden (now tennis court);
approximately 4 metres high, coped.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the Isaacs were a family of Worcestershire
bankers who owned the Berwick and Company Bank. The pre-fire
house had 3 storeys with a mansard roof and bell tower. Boughton
Park has been a golf club since 1928.
