St. Margaret
II
Parish church, now closed. C15, 1848, retaining some medieval
fabric. Squared greenstone rubble, with ashlar dressings,
rendered and banded brickwork, slate roofs. Nave, with
western bellcote,chancel, north porch, south vestry. The west
end is in banded brick and squared greenstone and has a 3 light
window with cusped tracery and 4 centred arched head, partly
reused. The gabled bellcote has a single arch. The rendered and
gabled north porch has a reset C15 outer arch and double
chamfered inner doorway with hood. The nave wall is in squared
greenstone rubble with C15 3 light window having cusped heads and
4 centred hood. In the chancel north wall is a pair of lancets.
The pointed east window is of 3 lights. The brick and greenstone
vestry has a 2 light east window and in the south wall of the
nave a 3 light window balances that to the north, and further
west is a continuously moulded C15 doorway. Interior. C19
double chamfered chancel arch with imposts. All fittings
removed.
