SCOTGATE (South Side)
Nos 1 to 10 (Rock Terrace)

(Formerly listed as Nos 32 to 41 (consec) (Also known as Nos 1 to 10 Rock Terrace))

GV
II

A mid C19 terrace of substantial small houses treated as one composition. The name 'Rock Terrace' appears at the North end in contemporary lettering, but the numbers once continued in Scotgate. Small coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Welsh slate roof hipped over end pavilions. Eaves overhanging on brackets. Each house has two windows in plain reveals. The two centre and two end houses break forward slightly with pilasters at corners. Two storeys and basement, except for centre block, which has an attic storey set back from the eaves level, consisting of two adjoining pediments each over a small round-headed window, glazing bars to No 4. Stone balcony over doors of Nos 5 and 6. Each ground floor window has a cast iron balcony of fair design. Six-panel doors in round-arched moulded surrounds with plain semi-circular fanlights. Stone grouped stacks. Centre block windows in triple arcade on first floor.

Nos 29 to 31 (consec) and 1-10 Rock Terrace form a group.

Also forms a group with Rock House and the Clock House, castarton Road
