G.V. II
Formerly row of cottages, now a pair. Originally C17, altered
c.1720, probably by Sir John Vanbrugh, with further C19 and C20
alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and
dressings, pantile roof with stone coped gables, 2 gable and 3
ridge stacks with stone bases and moulded red brick tops. Single
storey with attics, 8 bay front, having off-centre C20 door with
to left 6 and to right a single, 2 light plain casements, all
openings have wooden lintels. In the roof are 4 gabled dormers
with 2 light C20 glazing bar casements and rendered cheeks. Rear
elevation of 10 irregular bays contains 7 semi-circular headed
openings with keyed ashlar surrounds, possibly dating from
Vanbrugh's remodelling.
