Office building, built as intended goods warehouse for
Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. 1902. Possibly T.
Shelmerdine. Stone with granite ground floor. 5 storeys
with attics, 7 bays. Ground floor has raised bands,
segmental-head openings with triple keystones. 1st bay
has entrance with Gibbs surround, bulls eye window with
segmental open pediment over. 5th bay round-arched entrance
with round hood. 1st floor 1:3:3:3:1:2:1 lights to windows
with mullions and transoms, string over. 2nd and 3rd floor
attached Ionic colonnade with entablature. 2nd floor has 3
tripartite bowed windows, with colonnettes and entablature
over. Mansard roof with 1:3:1-light pedimented dormers
between round turret with colonnade and cupola to left, and
gable with round-headed window, surmounted by aedicule with
niches, rusticated pilasters and segmental open pediment to
right. Tall moulded cross-axial stacks. Utilitarian rear
facade.
