Country house. C16 altered and added to for Sir John Meres between 1587 and 1628, probably to designs of John Smythson. Brick with stone dressings, hipped tile roof with tall brick stacks. L-plan, three-storey, flush ashlar quoins, and moulded bands. Five bay, south front, with off-centre doorway raised on five steps with ashlar surround of Doric pilasters supporting entablature and small pediment. Transom and mullioned windows throughout, mostly two-light, all with iron casements. Some blue brick patterning survives in brickwork. Interior has C17 oak panelling and fireplace overmantels. Fine close string newel staircase.
