Farmhouse with attached barn, stables, and outbuildings. c.1700 with C19 and C20
alterations. Brick. Plain tile and slate roofs with brick coped gables with
kneelers throughout. Farmhouse has C20 plain tile roof with gable stack. C19
blue brick plinth. first floor band. Lobby-entry plan. East front: 2 storeys,
4 bays. Off-centre doorway with cambered arch with keystone and C19, 3-panel door.
To left, a single cross window and overlight, 2 similar windows, all C19, with
cambered arches and keystones. Above, four C19, 2-light casements. Attached
single storey, single bay brick wing to left, with C20 plain tile roof with stack
and single, C19 3-light casement with cambered arch. A jowled timber post is
visible at the junction with the farmhouse, possibly the remains of an earlier
timber-framed building. Attached single storey outbuilding to right of farmhouse.
Attached to rear of farmhouse, a brick barn and stable range. Stable has slate
roof and was largely rebuilt in late C19, with off-centre doorway with plank door.
Above, a similar loft doorway, 2-bay stable adjoins to left, with C20 plain tile
roof and 2 doorways with stable doors. Attached outshut with Swithland slate roof
and some rubblestone in walling to rear of range. Interior: farmhouse has wooden
panelled lobby and some panelling in room to left, with chamfered main beam with
run-cut stops. Flat beam mantel to fireplace. Dog-leg staircase with splat
balusters. First floor room to left has large smoke hood. Attached wing to left
has exposed main beam and joints. Granary above stables has an early C18, central
upper crucck truss, carrying a ridgepiece and side purlins.
