Pump-house, now house. c1800 altered and extended late C20.
MATERIALS: timber frame with brick infill, old tile hipped
roof.
PLAN: rectangular plan with projections on north-west and
south-east, projection on south-east has single storey
extensions on either side in the angle.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with very tall brick plinth and wide
overhanging eaves. 2 chimneys with clay pots. Mostly C20
casement windows with glazing bars.
Entrance front, south-east, single-bay central projection with
original 2-light, leaded window with Y-tracery and pointed
arch head. Below, planked church door with pointed head. One
small and one larger replica window on either side at first
floor, and two 2-light windows either side on ground floor.
Timber frame exposed on all 4 fronts, and consists of re-used
timbers with many carpenters marks out of sequence.
Inscription on lintel over planked wooden door on the right
return which reads PAX INTRANTIBVS SALVS EXEVNTIBVS.
INTERIOR: much altered in late C20, but still retains central
space with staircase rising to 2 floors. Pump-house formerly
contained an old Physic Well, now covered in. Formerly
consisted of one large room containing the well, and extending
the whole height of the building. Porch projection on entrance
front divided into 2 storeys, upper storey opening into large
room.
