GV II

House. Late C17, refronted and extended in early and mid C19;
refronted c1900. Built of sandstone rubble with roughcast
front; concrete tile roof, hipped to right; early C19 brick
left-end stack and ridge stack finished in mid C20 brick.
3-room plan with parlour to left, central hall of narrow width
with stack backing onto entrance passage and service end to
right; early C19 and C20 rear wings.
2 storeys; 4-window range. Early C19 pedimented doorcase with
Tuscan columns to reeded frieze; panelled reveals; 6-panelled
door with iron knocker. c1900 bay window to leftwith horned
sashes and bracketed eaves; C19 3-light casements left of door
and to first floor, with iron opening casements; mid C20 shop
window to right.
Early C19 rear left rear wing with slate roof, rendered end
stack and 2-light iron casements with leaded lights; mid C19
workshop wing further to rear, of brick with gabled slate roof
and C19 eight-pane casements. Late C20 rear right wing,
rendered with concrete tile roof.
Interior noted as having original and C18 joinery including
panelled doors and staircase; chamfered beams and 2 open
fireplaces to ground floor; ground-floor room to left has a
notable surviving example of a late C17 plaster ceiling,
divided into 12 panels by quartered beams and with moulded
cornicing to 2 central panels with ornamental centres to
moulded roundels.
