Lych gate at entrance to churchyard of Church of St Matthew

Lych gate designed by F. Bligh Bond and built by Pittards of Langport. It was dedicated in January 1916 and was donated by Miss Badcock in memory of her sister. Rubble plinths with dressed freestone cappings, oak superstructure, shingled roof with bellcast and wheel-cross finials. Medieval style. Massive superstructure with four-rain posts, archbracing, bridging beams, roof ridge at right angles to frontage; ends of exposed beams carved with grotesque masks.
Bridging beam to frontage with inscription:- *MORS IANVA VITAE". Gates.
