3/233 Rookery Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Late C17, altered. Rubblestone with ashlar dressings; C20 machine-
tile roof. 2 storeys; 5 lst-floor windows to 4 bays, with added wing to rear
right. Quoins. Entrance to right in 2nd bay has quoined surround, C20 part-
glazed 4-panel door, and C20, gabled,stone and glass porch (not of special in-
terest). Ovolo-moulded mullion windows throughout: on ground floor of 4 lights
under hoodmoulds flanking door, of 3 lights to left, and a replacement early
C20 sash with brick jambs and wood lintel to right; on 1st floor of 2 lights
above door, otherwise of 3 lights. Raised verges with stepped coping. Stone
stacks to ends and to ridge between bays 3 and 4, the 2 left-hand stacks heigh-
tened in brick. Rear: Main range has board door with wood lintel in line with
front door; a 2-light window with hoodmould to its left; small later wood-
framed window above, to its right, and another to far right; 2 board doors
into wing; C20 addition in angle of wing and house not of special interest.
Left return: a 2-light window to right on each floor. Right return: C20
added lean-to not of special interest; inserted 1st floor window on right;
wing has 2-light wood-lintelled windows, 2 on ground floor, one above, and end
stack. Interior not inspected but seen to have: in bay - 4 room, boxed, cross-
beams; in bay - 3 room a large stone inglenook fireplace and a deeply-chamfered
cross-beam.
Abandoned and in state of disrepair at time of inspection.
