1/190 Coombe Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. C18 with earlier fragments. Doulting ashlar; plain clay tile roof between coped gables; brick end chimney
stacks. 'L'-plan; 3 storeys, 3 bays. Plinth; 16-pane sash windows in plain openings with flat voussoired arches to
first and second floor outer bays, with 12-pane sash to centre first floor and 8- pane and 6-pane sashes to second
floor; in centre a plain part glazed margined door in simple opening. Extensions to rear appear to incorporate walls
from earlier buildings. Farm first recorded in 1548; medieval house may have been on site of barn (qv) present farm
mostly C18 but extended by Mr. Dyne, the Bruton Solicitor who owned it in the early C19. Interior not seen. (Couzens
P, Bruton in Selwood, Abbey Press, Sherborne, 1972).
