Milestone. C18. Doulting stone. Pillar 350 mm wide by 220 m at base,
tapering to 300mm x 200mm, 1 metre high, with triangular top, all edges chamfered; Inscription reads '1 Mile-From-Redlynch- HOUSE". On a
private coach road between Redlynch House (qv), belonging to Lord
Ilchester in C18, and Stourhead, Wiltshire, belonging to the Hoares;
the road was used by George III when he often stayed at Redlynch on
his way to Weymouth. (Couzens P, Bruton in Selwood, Abbey Press,
Sherborne, 1972).
