II
Farmhouse. Late C16 or early C17, extended in the C17 and remodelled
in the late C18 and early C19. Rendered timber frame, largely refaced
or rebuilt in red brick. Plain tile roof. H-plan with baffle entry.
One framed bay with gabled crosswings, of one bay to left and projecting of
two bays to right. Later one bay addition to left. 2 storeys and
attic, over basement to right. Plinth to right, plat bands to right-
and left-hand wings and parapeted gable end to left with stone coping
and shaped stone kneelers. Plain barge boards with finials. Large
dressed grey sandstone ridge stack with stone coping and top rebuilt
or heightened in red brick. External lateral brick stack to right.
4:1 windows; one-, 2- and 3-light C19 wooden casements with painted stone
cills and lintels. Door between second and third windows from left
with 6 raised and fielded panels, moulded surround and bracketed gabled
porch. Addition to left slightly set forward. Rear: rendered timber
frame survives, underbuilt in brick. Cross wing to left with brackets
supporting jettied gable. C18 small-paned first-floor (staircase) window
to left of stack. Interior: square-panelled framed cross walls.
Ground-floor room to left of stack: pair of chamfered ceiling beams.
Large open fireplace with tooled dressed grey sandstone reveals and chamf-
ered wooden lintel with shallow arch. Small salt cupboard. Ground-
floor room to right of stack: pair of chamfered ceiling beams and C18
moulded cornice. Left-hand ground-floor room: pair of chamfered ceiling
beams with ogee stops. Blocked fireplace with ogee-stopped chamfered wooden
lintel. Pair of winder stairs to rear, that to right old. First-
floor room to left of stack with pair of ovolo-moulded beams. Old boarded
cellar door with wrought-iron fleur-de-lys strap hinges.
