Farmhouse. C15, remodelled late C17 and early C19, extended late C20.
Red brick incorporating cruck frame; slate roof. Original plan an open-
hall house of 2 or more probably 3 framed bays, truncated by one bay and
floored over in late C17, rebuilt in brick in early C19 and extended by
one bay to right in late C20. One storey and attic. C20 casements to
centre and right with 3 contemporary gabled eaves dormers. Sandstone
rubble to left associated with end stack, top of which has been rebuilt
in C20 red brick; C20 integral end stack to right. Entrance to left
gable end through late C20 flat-roofed porch (not of special architectural
interest). Interior. 2 true cruck trusses survive, left probably
originally central to open hall and right, probably also originally
internal, although was external between periods of early C19 remodelling
and late C20 extension. Both have king-posts (Alcock apex-type G) on
slightly cambered collars, arch-braced to left truss, although only
mortices survive to front. Square panelled timber framed cross walls
beneath trusses to ground floor and chamfered spine beam and heavy joists
between. Alcock (1981), p. 143.
