Farmhouse. Mainly early C18, but incorporating parts of an earlier house,
with later additions and alterations. Red brick, plain tile hipped roof
largely hidden by brick parapet with stone coping. Original house to south
probably timber framed but partly demolished and re-built in red brick in
early C18 when an L-shaped north range was added; the north front of this
was heightened in late C18 by addition of a third storey. North front: 3
storeys over cellars, floor bands; 6 bays, glazing bar sashes with gauged
heads, those to first-floor and in fourth bay from left on ground floor
18-paned with original thick glazing bars; entrance in third bay from left,
8-panel door with bracketed hood; late C18 central lead downpipe; 2 integral
axial stacks to back wall. 4-bay left return also with central downpipe and
blocked windows. Interior: staircase in central hall rising to third floor,
3 turned balusters to each tread and parquet floors on landings, room to east
on ground floor contains plain oak panelling; some re-used timbers in the
cellar and in the attic a wooden board inscribed "June.Wilm.Woley.1616" may
come from earlier house. V.C.H. VIII (1968), Pp.262-3.
