Description

SJ 30 NE PONTESBURY C.P. MAIN ROAD
(south side)

3/215 Barn attached to
- north-west end of
Laburnum Cottage

- II

Barn. Probably C16 or C17. Timber framed of cruck construction, now largely
brick clad with a weatherboarded gable end, corrugated iron roof. 3 framed
bays open to roof; wide former threshing entrance to left on west with 2
subsidiary doorways to right. Interior: 3 true cruck trusses with Alcock
apex type B and blade-curve type E. The absence of smoke-blackening and
the late form of the crucks suggest that the building would always have
been used for agricultural purposes. Laburnum Cottage is not included.
Alcock (1981), p.144; V.C.H. VIII (1968), p.252.
