Barn, cow houses and cart shed, now stables and garages. Late C17 or
early C18. Timber framed with red brick nogging and weatherboarded on uncoursed
grey sandstone rubble plinth; plain tile roofs. L-plan; barn of 4
framed bays with range of former cow houses adjoining at right-angles.
One storey and loft cow houses. Framing: square panels (3 from sole-
plate to wall-plate in cow houses), long straight tension braces. Barn
with pair of opposed large boarded doors to threshing floor and boarded
loft door in gable-end to east. Cow houses: 3 boarded doors, 2 to
right, with 2 leaves and small casement between. C19 sandstone rubble
lean-to addition to left with 2-light window to front and boarded door
in right-hand return front; former cart shed to right with boarded
loft door to left and 3-bay open front with C20 boarded doors and windows
set back behind; flight of external steps at right-hand gable end up
to segmental-headed loft door with 2-light segmental-headed casement to
left. Interior of barn: collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts
and V-struts; pairs of purlins; inserted loft floor at east end.
These buildings were formerly part of Butlers Farm. Butlers House is
not included in this list.
