House, now divided into two. Probably late C16 or early C17 with considerable
later additions and alterations. Timber-framed with red brick infill
and cladding on high roughly coursed limestone chamfered plinth, rendered
to front; machine tile roof and external end stacks. Two storeys;
framing: exposed to back wall, close studding with single middle rail;
clad in C19 red brick to front and left return and re-built in similar
brick to right return; late C19 fenestration to No. 3, cast-iron
casements to left and right of C20 central gabled porch with neo-Georgian
door (late C19 boarded door in wall behind); late C20 casements to
No. 2, also to left and right of central C20 gabled porch with half-
glazed door. INTERIOR: chamfered cross beams with straight-cut chamfer
stops to both parts with heavy joists also exposed to No. 2. Late C20
two-storey gabled extension to rear of No. 2 not of special architectural
interest. No. 2 is also known as The Workhouse Cottage.
