Farmhouse. Dated 1683, with probably mid-C17 cross wing. Refenestrated
and partly remodelled c.1837. Timber-framed with brick nogging, partly
rebuilt and extended in red brick with some red sandstone ashlar dressings.
Plain tile roof. T-plan. Late C17 block with projecting gabled earlier
cross wing to right. Two storeys and gable-lit attic. Left-hand block:
first-floor dentil-brick cill band, parapeted gable ends with stone
copings, and external brick end stacks, that to left with toothed-brick
cornice to three diagonally-placed square shafts with oversailing caps, and
that to right rebuilt in the late C20, with two diagonally-placed square
shafts. Two bays; early C19 first-floor wooden cross windows and early
C19 ground-floor tripartite glazing bar sash to left, all with stone
lintels and returned hoodmoulds. 2-light basement window to left.
Early C19 four-panelled door to right (lower beaded flush panels and
glazed upper panel), and returned wooden hoodmould. Central blocked
doorway (see straight joints). Left-hand gable end: blocked C17
segmental-headed one-light first-floor windows flanking stack, and 2-
light attic casement to right of stack (attic casement also in right-hand
gable end). Square grey sandstone date stone in stack: "M (or"IL" or "LL")
/E E/ 1683". Rear: 2-windows; C17 wooden cross windows with recessed
segmental heads. One-storey lean-to. Right-hand block: parapeted
gable end to front, with stone coping and finial at apex, and central brick
ridge stack. Early C19 two-light wooden casement to each floor, each
with sandstone lintel and returned hoodmould. Right-hand return front
rebuilt in C18 or C19 with dentil brick eaves cornice, and rear gable end
rebuilt in late C17 (see straight joints). Interior only partly inspected.
C17 oak L-plan staircase, rising to attic, with landings, closed string,
thick splat balusters, moulded grip handrail, and square foot newel post
with large finial. Left-hand bedroom said to be panelled and have a
bolection-moulded fireplace.
