5/23 Group of 5 chest tombs
- approximately 20 metres
to south of chancel of
Church of St Eata

GV II

Group of 5 chest tombs. Late C18 or early C19. Sandstone ashlar. 2
chest tombs to north have moulded plinths, shaped corner balusters, raised
and fielded panels, and moulded cornices; south-west tomb has plinth,
panelled pilasters, and sides, and chamfered top; southern tomb has
moulded plinth, fluted corner pilasters with paterae in capitals, slightly
recessed panels (oval at ends), and moulded cornice to flat top; south-
east tomb has plinth, panelled square end-pilasters flanking plain sides,
and top with panelled gables inscribed: "MOMENTO MORI" to west and
"RESURGEM" to east. To the Davies, Watson, Yeoman, Sayer, Price and
Maddock families.
