Farmhouse. C16 or C17 with C18 and mid-to-late C19 additions and alterations.
Timber framed, refaced or rebuilt and extended in coursed limestone rubble,
partly painted and rendered; slate and corrugated asbestos roof, hipped
to south-west. Irregular U -plan house with probable former hall and
flanking gabled cross wings. One storey and attic. South-west front:
brick ridge stack off-centre to right and external stone lateral stack
to right with 2 truncated diamond brick shafts; large central full dormer
with C19 wooden cross window and scalloped barge boards; C19 gabled eaves-
dormer to left with 2-light casement and scalloped barge boards. Central
3-light C20 casement; half-glazed segmental-headed door off-centre to left
and board door off-centre to right with gabled porch; blocked window to
south-east with gauged brick segmental-head and keystone. Rear: central
former 'hall' range with raised eaves, first floor 2-light C19 wooden
casement, ground floor fire window to left, and flanking projecting gabled
wings. Interior: chamfered beams with ogee stops, and large open fireplace
in former 'hall' range; south-east cross wing: early C18 staircase of
3 flights with landings and rectangular well, turned balusters to short
flight and landing, moulded newel posts, and dog gate at foot with splat
balusters to top part (shaped to represent barley sugar baluster),
6-panelled ground floor door; probably C17 first floor plank and muntin door.
