Farmhouse. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Red brick
(random and English bond) on chamfered plinth repaired in C18 and later
red brick; machine tile roof. U-plan with gabled wings at each end
to south and inner brick lean-to abutting. 2 storeys and attics; 1:2:1
windows; mid-C20 casements with blocked segmental arch to ground floor
of left wing, right wing has infilled 2-light wooden mullion window
to left return on first floor and remains of similar window below.
Left lean-to (forming porch) has segmental outer arch and inner massive
nail-studded plank door in double ovolo-moulded surround; benches to
either side. Tall red brick stack to front wall abutting right lean-
to, 2 prominent external lateral stacks to left gable and external lateral
stack to right gable. Rear has massive external stack to back wall
with 3 partly rebuilt rebated diagonal shafts. Gabled staircase projection
to left with close-set vertical posts and position of former window
to top. Rear wall of gable to right totally re-built in mid-C20 brick.
Interior: chamfered ceiling beams with straight-cut and ogee stops.
Timber framed cross walls (square panels) to ground and first floors.
Square oak panelling to first floor in majority of rooms with Ionic
pilasters to that in corridor. Wide oak spiral staircase with massive
newel rises from ground floor to attic.
