House with attached barn. House has early C18 front wing and earlier rear wing,
possibly C16, altered. Coursed rubble limestone with stone slate roof and ashlar
chimneys. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic, 2-bay front. Front has C19 3-light wooden
casements with narrow horizontal glazing bars and wooden lintels. 2 gabled_roof
dormers with 2-light wooden casements. C19 board door to left with slightly
chamfered jambs and wooden lintel. 2 chimneys, that to centre with cyma recta
cornice, that to right rebuilt. Rear wing has similar casements and door to near
bay, and 3-light wood mullion windows and board door to bay beyond. This last
bay contains dairy with cheese room above. Interior of house has large open
fireplaces, stop-chamfered joists in left bay, stop-chamfered spine beams, and
winder stair in shaped stone well. Rear wing has central roof truss with
chamfered arch-braces to collar. Front range has double purlin roof with lower
purlins laid square. Barn attached to front left of house is of later C18 date
than house, and was re-roofed 1948. Coursed rubble stone with stone slate roof.
Vent slits. Through cart entry with projection to front. C18/C19 cartshed
attached to rear of house is not of special architectural interest.
