Farmhouse. Late C18 reusing some earlier materials; minor later additions and
alterations. Regularly coursed and dressed limestone rubble to sides and rear,
ashlar to front; low-pitched hipped slate roof, in 3 sections to rear. 3
storeys. 3-window front; horned glazing bar sashes, tripartite to ground floor,
of reduced proportions to second floor. Central entrance; fluted stone Doric
porch with moulded entablature, 6-panel door with wreathed and radiating
rectangular overlight. 3-bay returns, left with two reused 4-light ovolo-moulded
mullion windows to first floor and one of 3 lights with concave moulding
lighting cellar to right. Valley stacks to rear. Back wall has 3 windows on each
floor, late C18 or C19 casements, some leaded, those to first floor and centre
on ground floor with segmental heads. Late C19 canted bay window to ground floor
left and lean-to porch to right with inverted scratch-dial dated "1660" reused
next to door. Another scratch-dial reused as quoin to left corner. C19
single-storey service range attached to rear left corner (as viewed from front)
has one 3-light and one 4-light mullion window reused to right wall; parts of
another mullion window incorporated in tall 2-light window to left
wall. Interior. Full inspection not possible at time of resurvey (July 1987) but
stone-flagged central entrance hall has open-well staircase with stick balusters
and carved open string. Panelled doors, window shutters (to front) and chamfered
ceiling beams to ground-floor rooms. Kitchen (rear centre room) has triple arch
to right wall with fireplace to centre. Well-preserved deserted village
earthworks in field to south-east.
