House. Oriel House: c.1850-60. Limestone ashlar front; gabled concrete tile
roof; stone ridge stacks. Central-staircase plan. Gothic Revival style. 2
storeys and attic; 3-window range. Two stone-coped gabled bays to right have
tympanum arches over all openings; chamfered attic lights; 4-light
pointed-arched stone-mullioned and transomed windows an first floor; 6-panelled
door with overlight set in pointed arched architrave flanked by similar
mullioned and transomed window, and a canted bay window with similar windows and
pierced balustrade. Bay to left has semi-circular oriel window with angel carved
in corbel, and segmental-arched carriage-entry: C20 door and window inside. No.8
to right, with front of squared and coursed limestone: of 3-window range, with
gabled bay to left; tympanum arches over C20 plank door set in chamfered
architrave to right and similar mullioned and transomed windows. Interior not
inspected but likely to be of interest.
