House. Early C17, probably 1628 for Thomas Bouchier; remodelled in late C17 for
another Thomas Bouchier. Coursed limestone rubble; gabled stone slate roofs;
stone end stacks to cross wing; ridge and end stacks of stone finished in brick
to main range. 3-unit plan with cross-wing to left. Two storeys and attic;
3-window range. C20 lean-to porch. Timber lintels over late C19 four-light
casements and, on first floor, C18 transomed cross windows. Gabled roof dormers.
Cross-wing has C20 casements to left side wall of 3-window range. Rear:
stair-turret to left of main range, and early C19 two-storey bay of stone ashlar
with raised storey band and keyed segmental and flat stone arches. To front left
is lower C18 range with C20 porch, connected to tall one storey late C17 block:
of similar materials with moulded stone coping; timber lintels over 3 C20
windows. Interior not inspected but likely to be of interest. Subsidiary
features: L-shaped wall, of approximately 15 x 20 metres, partly encloses
foldyard to front: of stone-coped limestone rubble, and terminated by late C17
ashlar gatepier with channelled gatepier, moulded cornice and ball finial. The
late C17 block attached to the left is symmetrically balanced with detached
outbuilding block to right or north-west of house (q.v.).
