2 houses. Reputedly 1630, Limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs. 2- and 3-unit
plans. No.29 is of 2 storeys and No.31 is single storey with attic. No.31 is
3-window range of 3-light stone mullion windows with drip moulds, the bay to the
left is at a lower level. 3 stone half-dormers to attic with similar stone
mullion windows with small roundels above. Central roundel above, under eaves.
Central ashlar stack with 4 grouped flues and moulded stone cornices. Gable
parapets and kneelers with ball finials at eaves and apex. Left gable has two
2-light stone mullion windows with drip moulds, and roundel in apex. Blank
shield above first floor window. Rear elevation has central gable which breaks
forward and has small square, round and diamond shape single-light windows.
No.29 is attached to right of No.31 and is a 3-window range of C20 casements in
original openings under stone lintels. C20 lean-to extension to left of main
front has C20 door and window. Gable parapets and ashlar stacks, with moulded
cornices, at ridge and end. C19 single-storey extension to right. Interior of
No.29 has open fireplace with bressumer. Interior of No.31 not inspected but
said to have C17 moulded stone details. Said to have been built by the stone
masons working at Kirby Hall (q.v.).
