Parish church. 1856 by Thomas Nicholson in a Decorated style. Squared
sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and tiled roof. West tower, nave
with north porch, north and south transeptal chapels and chancel with
south vestry. West tower of three stages, buttressed with two string
courses and an embattled parapet, hexagonal stair turret protrudes to
north side and extends higher than tower; small doorway to north. Clock
face to second stage on north side and west window with two trefoiled-
ogee-headed lights and octofoil. Nave: four bays with north porch at west
end and north chapel to east flanking two 2-light windows with decorated
tracery, three similar windows to south side, elongated cinquefoil headed
lights with sexfoil in curved-sided triangle to north chapel with similar
window to south chapel. Gabled north porch with two-centred arthed-headed
outer doorway with ball flower ornament to outer moulding; hood mould with
head stops, attached shafts with moulded capitals and bases. Chancel of
two bays with string course and buttressing, two windows with two trefoiled
headed lights and decorative tracery. East window: four cinquefoiled
headed lights with decorated tracery. The south wall of the vestry has paired
trefoil headed lights. Interior: trussed rafter roof with embattled wall-
plates to both nave and chancel. Tower arch of two moulded orders with inner
order dying into responds, two-centred pointed chancel arch with octagonal
plan attached shafts, moulded capitals and bases. Contemporary octagonal
font with decorative traceried panels, moulded underside with roundels and
quatrefoils. (BoE, p 291).
