Barn. c.1700. Timber frame on random bond brick plinth; north wall of uncoursed
sarsen and chalk rubble; south wall and gable end are weatherboarded; Entry to
right: hipped roof. Interior: Queen-post truss with additional flanking posts;
butt purlins; arch braced from post to tie beam and (at a higher level) from
post to wall plate. Barn at right angles to above. Late Late C16/C17. Timber
frame on later C18 English bond brick plinth on sarsen footing; weatherboarded;
thatched roof. 6 bays with off-centre threshing floor. Half-hipped roof.
Interior: Collar-truss with side struts, butt purlins and windbraces; heavy
jowled posts and thick curved braces from post to tie beam and wall plate. Half
hipped roof. Late C18 stable block against south gable end: sarsen rubble
walling, brick dressings, corrugated asbestos roof, 3 window range, gable
entry. Linking the two barns is a mid C19 four-bay shelter shed: splayed brick
piers to front divide each bay, openings are now weatherboarded and have two
C20 planked stable doors. Thatched roof. Interior: C17 queen-strut trusses have
been removed from a timber framed building, probably a barn because they have a
wide span.
