Barn, now gymnasium. C15, for Abingdon Abbey. Coursed limestone rubble with
puplog holes and dressed quoins; old tile roof with stone coping and carved
finials. 5-bay plan with threshing floor in second bay from left. Entries
blocked by C20 door and glazing: timber lintel over smaller blocked entry in
second bay from right. Interior: 5-bay roof with original windbraces to rear
right, and C20 lateral (iron stanchion) and transverse (bolted plates)
strengthening. Raised crucks with arch-braced lower collars, and upper collars
halved into blades; ridge purlin laid on solid yoke; trenched side purlins with
tabled scarf joints. Abingdon Abbey leased the site out to lay tenants in C15.
