Hotel. C17 with later alterations and additions including C20 front. Dated 1652
to rear. 1949 restoration work to No.19 bears inscription: "Architect Thos. W.
Knight. Mason fixer G.H. Paintain". 3 ranges. 2 storeys plus attic throughout.
Ironstone ashlar. Stone slate roofs to front, plain tile to rear. Stone ridge,
lateral and end stacks. Tudor Revival front elevation has bay windows, stone
mullioned and transomed windows with hood moulds and label stops and gable front
attic dormers. 5 entrances including reset original 4-centred arched doorway to
main entrance. Rear elevation: 2 storeys plus attics. 4 gabled bays. Crenellated
2-storey bay window to left. Renewed gabled bay to right. 3,5 and 6-light
stone-mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops. Renewed stonework in
most windows. Renewed stone doorways. Interior: C17 open well staircase with a
moulded handrail and C18 twisted balusters. Oak panelling. (Buildings of England:
