Public house. C17, altered early C19; extended early C19. Coursed squared
marlstone with wooden lintels and some ashlar dressings; brick; concrete pantile
roof with stone-and-brick stacks. 5-bay plan, plus added rear wing. 2 storeys
plus attic. 3 bays to left of 4-window front have large leaded 4-light C18
casements, except ground floor in bay 3 which has a contemporary 5-light canted
bay window; bay 5 has a 2-light casement above a 3-light window, but bay 4
retains a 4-light stone-mullioned window with label at first floor over the
carriage entry. Chamfered plinth rises over 3 mullioned cellar windows in bay
one, and doorway between bays 2 and 3 retains an old ribbed door. Steep-pitched
roof has stone-based stacks to left of bays one, 2 and 4. Rear has a 3-light
wood-mullioned window above the entry, a 6-light leaded casement, and a 2-light
ovolo-moulded wood-mullioned window incorporated into a wider window. Painted
brick rear wing has further leaded casements. Interior: stop-chamfered spine
beams; large inglenook fireplace with chamfered bressumer; some early-C18
joinery including a corner cupboard; moulded inner faces to C18 casements. Front
door probably led to a through passage.
