5/45 The Old Rectory
GV II
Former rectory. Early C19 with later C19 additions. Red brick, hipped slate
roof, brick lateral and internal stacks. Complex plan. 2-storey, 3-window range.
Entrance front to yard has central 4-panel door with ogee lead hood on iron
brackets flanked by 3-light blind windows above and similar 2-light window above
door. Windows and door have segmental heads and cemented hood moulds. Right side
elevation to garden has mid C19 Doric pillared stone porch and double-leaf
part-glazed door with fanlight. Two 12-pane sash windows to ground floor left
and canted stone bay window to right with plate glass sashes; 9-pane sashes to
first floor. The sash windows have gauged brick lintels. Interior has C19 marble
chimneypieces and open well staircase, probably rearranged; with stick
balusters, cast iron standard and wreathed and ramped mahogany handrail.
