Railway Bridge to the south
east of Dale Bridge
GV II
Railway bridge. c1840 for the North Midland Railway Company. Regularly coursed
rock faced gritstone with ashlar dressings. Single arch bridge with rusticated
ashlar to arch, and arch spandrels. Above the arch, a boldly projecting continuous
roll moulding with a shallow plain ashlar parapet above, now with C20 metal railings.
Brick lining to arch rises from projecting moulded plinthband, which is returned
onto the arch facings, separating the ashlar work from the rock-faced masonry below.
Splayed ends to parapet walls, terminating in half-octagon piers.
