Country House. Late C17 remodelling of earlier fabric altered late Cl8. Rubble,
partly rendered, with stone dressings. Slate roof, ashlar stepped stack on left
gable, right gable stack rendered. Late C17 T-plan house enlarged to a rectangular
block in late C18. Late C18 ballroom wing is also a remodelling of earlier fabric.
3 storeys, 5 windows, symmetrical. Central door in raised and chamfered stone
surround, 3-pane fanlight, flanked by pairs of 12-pane sashes in similar surrounds.
1st floor 5 altered sashes in similar surrounds. C18 sundial above the central
window. 2nd floor 3 casements in similar surrounds. Single-storey ballroom extension
to right has 2 large renewed sashes in raised stone surrounds with lintels of
earlier openings above. Right return of ballroom extension has coped gable with
moulded kneelers and corniced ashlar stack; 2 tall renewed sashes in raised stone
surrounds. Left return rendered, with later openings. Rear elevation central C17
two-light mullioned window with 18-pane sash in raised stone surround above, other
windows C18 and Cl9, small C20 right extension.
Interior: closed-string, open-well stair of c.1690 rising through 3 storeys in
short flights. Moulded string, turned balusters (flat splats on top landing),
square newels with pendants, wide handrail with arched top. Ballroom has C18
enriched modillioned eaves cornice and plaster eagle in centre of ceiling; C18
panelled shutters.
