House. Mid C19. Bargate rubblestone with brick dressings, stuccoed to front;
Welsh slate roof. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys with cellar, 4 bays. Plinth,
raised chamfered quoins, rusticated ground floor, plat band, lst-floor bays
defined by pilasters rising to eaves band. Entrance in bay 3 has step up to
portico with 4 columns to front and pilasters to rear, entablature with plain
frieze and cornice; inside portico is step up to door of 6 flush panels (top 2
glazed). Windows are sashes with glazing bars having projecting sills and on
ground floor lintels tooled as voussoirs. 2-span roof with oversailing eaves and
coved-corniced stacks in valley to centre and right. Interior: contemporary
fireplaces; 6-panel doors; elegant open-string stair has mahogany handrail with
spiral curtail and plain stick balusters. Occupied by the artist Charles
Robertson (1844-91).
