House

II

Possible Hall House. Early C16, extended in later C16 and C18 and C19 to
right, further extended to left in 1950's. Timber framed, clad in brick of
different periods to front, brown brick extensions to left, rendered
extensions to right. Plain tiled roofs, hipped over centre with gablet to
front of cross wing. Originally 3 bay house, left bay now demolished and
replaced with two bay cross wing to right encased in C19 extensions. Two
storeys with tall, massive, inserted stack to left of centre, further stacks
to front right, left end and rear. Two first floor windows and two casement
windows on ground floor under wooden lintels. One first floor window in
cross wing and one larger leaded casement window on ground floor. Door to
right in projecting single storey porch under hipped hood continuation of
roof supported on brackets. Pentice catslide to front right with flat dormer.
Gable end of left hand extensions set back. Rear - two half-hipped wings and
central polygonal glazed extension. Single storey wing at right angles to
rear.
Interior:- Substantial framing exposed with lamb's tongue stop chamfers to
ground floor spine beam. Deep fireplace. Evidence survives of jetty on
cross wing. Close stud framing on first floor over old floorboards. Jowled
posts and windbracing in roof of cross wing.
