Dated 1776. 3 storeys. 2 windows on 2nd floor, 3 on 1st floor. Coursed dressed
rubble with quoins, lintels etc. Late glazed sash windows. 2 modern shop
fronts (Nos 36 and 40) with a central through passage. Shop front to No 40
late C19 - 3 fascia brackets, partly fluted colonettes to plate glass windows,
recessed door to left. 1st floor central lintel has "M.A." over "1776" carved
upon it. Lintel at rear of through passage has a medieval corbel head of
a lady built in above it. [? possibly from the Lavatorium of Hexham Priory].
Tumbled brick in verge at rear to east.
Nos 14 to 48 (even) and Orchard House form a group, of which Nos 14 to 18, 26 to 34
and 42 to 46 and 44A are of local interest.
