ELLINGTON
ELLINGTON VILLAGE
Dovecote at The Duckett

II

Dovecote, now outhouse. Probably mid-C18, altered c.1830. Roughly-squared
stone with cut quoins and dressings, parapet tooled and margined. Flat C20
roof. Squat tower-like structure 5.2 metres square externally, with the
parapet corbelled out and raised at each corner to appear castellated. West
elevation shows lunette above recess (blocked window?) and central section of
parapet pierced by pigeon holes with alighting band beneath. East elevation
shows similar window above inserted double doors. Interior with nesting boxes.
Adjacent houses to north and south not of special interest.
Prior to c.1930 the dovecote had a tall pyramidal roof.
