GV II
Water mill and mill house, now converted into 3 dwellings. c.1850-60 with C20
alterations. Coursed limestone rubble, slate roof, brick ridge and end stacks.
3-storey, 5-window mill and 2-storey, 3-window mill house. The latter has 2-unit
plan. Mill and mill house are both under sane roof. Former mill (Hill House) has
C20 windows and door in original openings with round-arched brick heads.
Slate-hung gabled hoist over centre above eaves. Red-brick lean-to extension to
right. Former mill house to left (Mill Cottage) on higher ground has central C20
door and 12-pane sash windows to ground and 1st floor, except for small central
1st floor window, all with segmental-arched brick heads. Brick corbelled eaves
to whole block. Gabled wing to rear of former mill (Mill Wheel) has similar
fenestration, probably former engine house, with tall rebuilt red-brick chimney
adjacent. No machinery survives. Originally water-powered, the mill also had
steam power. Built to serve the Grafton estate.
