Ha-Ha wall with angle bastions and statues, early C18. Ha-Ha squared stone,
bastions ashlar, statues lead on ashlar pedestals. Wall encloses rectangular
area 360 x 220 metres, with Seaton Delaval Hall (q.v.) at centre of north side.
Wall 2 metres high, circular angle bastions 3.5 metres high, flat coping.
Bastions have each contained a classical statue, now removed; Samson slaying
Philistine in north-east, removed to garden (q.v.); David and Goliath in north-
west, Diana in south-east. Statues on panelled pedestals with plinth and cornice.
In south-west bastion only pedestal plinth remains.
Diana removed to Orangery (q.v.), David and Goliath away for repair, at time
of survey.
Wall between north-east bastion and Hall has been rebuilt and is not of special
interest.
