House, c.1830. Tooled stone front with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings,
other walls rubble; Welsh slate roof. T-plan. South elevation 2 storeys, 5 bays,
symmetrical. Plinth, 1st floor band, eaves cornice. 2 steps up to central
renewed door under 8-pane overlight, in raised surround with Tuscan pilasters and
moulded cornice. 20-pane sash windows, those on ground floor with moulded panels
between sills and plinth. Hipped roof. Left return shows tripartite sash, and
20-pane sash above, in raised stone surrounds. Right return shows 16-pane sash
in similar surround on 1st floor. Rear wing has hip-ended roof and reduced ridge
stack.
Interior: moulded cornices, panelled shutters. Open-well stair in rear wing has
stick balusters, moulded ramped and wreathed handrail, curtail step and carved
tread ends. Similar stairhead balustrade.
Originally mine owner's house for the adjacent colliery (now removed), later the
NCB pay offices for the area.
