Manor house. Late C17 with late C16 origins. Coursed ironstone rubble, rendered,
slate roof, brick end stacks. 3-unit plan. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic; 5-window
range. Central part-glazed door in painted moulded stone surround with broken
pediment. 12-pane sash windows to ground and 1st floors with eared painted stone
surrounds. Plinth, moulded painted storey bands, modillion eaves, moulded wood
cornice and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Full height wing to rear right and
C20 extension of red brick to rear left. Interior: stone-flagged hall. Open well
staircase from ground floor to attic with fine mid/late C17 acanthus roll
balustrade. Drawing room has fielded panelling to eared wood chimneypiece. Open
fireplace in former kitchen with cambered bressumer. Mid C18 eared wood
chimneypiece upstairs with carved ornament and veined marble slips. Collar truss
roof. Dates of construction said to be recorded on beam behind panelling dated
1585 with names of Luke and Mathew Mantell and 1685 and name John Dee.
