17/34 The Cock Public House
GV II
Public house. Datestone. 1593, altered C18/C19. Squared coursed limestone with
pantile roof. Originally 3-unit plan. 2 storeys. 3-window range with 2 C16
three-light stone mullion windows to first floor left and evidence of head of
similar window to ground floor right. C19 casement window with glazing bars,
under wood lintel, to first floor right. C19 square-bay window below. Other
windows are C20. 4-panel door to left of centre under wood lintel with
rectangular fanlight. C19 roof with brick stacks at ends and lateral brick stack
at centre. Evidence of some refenestration to ground floor right. Datestone to
right of centre. Late C18/early C19 wing to rear has casement windows under wood
lintels. C19 shop front, now disused, is attached to rear of this wing. Interior
has spine beams and remains of open fireplace.
