II
Manor house. C15 origins, mainly C17 altered C18 and C19. Squared coursed and
regular coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. 3-unit, lobby-entry,
plan with cross-wing. 2 storeys. Entrance front is an irregular 3-window range
of C19 casements under wood lintels. Central, C19 part-glazed door, to centre,
under wood lintel. Gabled cross-wing breaks forward to right. Traces of medieval
window surround to first floor of gable. Return wall of cross-wing has one C19
casement at ground floor. Left corner of cross-wing is chamfered and has
fragment of medieval carvings. C20 buttress to left of doorway. Ashlar gable
parapets, with kneelers, to left gable. Ashlar ridge and end stacks with moulded
cornices. Elevation of cross-wing, to right, has late C19 square wooden bay
window to left with C19 casement window above. 4-panel door to right, is under
wood lintel. Rear elevation is an irregular 3-window range, similar to entrance
front. Gabled cross-wing breaks forward, to right, with 2 windows at first floor
and one at ground floor. C20 stable door to far right, under wood lintel, has
blocked door alongside. Evidence of earlier roof line in gable of cross-wing.
Ashlar parapet of cross-wing has gabled finials and kneelers. Shallow pilaster
to right corner and central C20 buttress. Interior not inspected but kitchen
noted as having remains of open fireplace with bressumer. Room in cross-wing
also has small open fireplace. Mid/late C19 staircase to rear of cross-wing. One
C18 six-panelled door noted to right of ground floor.
